Machined Finish Bars
N/A The various grades of tool steel described herein are generally available as hot rolled bars (except for larger sizes of rounds, which are rough turned). Flats and squares in many popular sizes and grades, as well as some smaller rounds, are also available with the mill scale of the hot rolled bars removed. Known variously as "machined finish", "thrift finish", and "deluxe finish", these bars are free of decarburization and ready for layout. Time consuming and costly shop preparation is eliminated, and there is no wasted material. Subsequent heat treatment is more satisfactory because uniform removal of surface eliminates a primary cause of warpage. Machined finish flats and squares are milled slightly oversize to an RMS 110-125 finish. |
